  7. The Star Technologies Multi*Port allows up to eight terminals and/or printers
  8. to be connected to a single serial RS-232 port on a UNIX or XENIX host. The
  9. Multi*Port can either be connected locally or remotely using only a single pair
  10. of modems and a dial up or lease line, which provides a much more
  11. cost-effective solution than expensive statistical Multiplexors. Purchased in a
  12. ``Tele-Kit'' the Multi*Port comes with two Multi-Tech modems pre-configured and
  13. with all required cables for local and remote locations
  14.  
  15. Installation of the Multi*Port links software into the UNIX system. The
  16. Multi*Port configuration program assigns a Multi*Port to a physical port on the
  17. system (i.e., /dev.tty01). Eight new devices are then defined to UNIX
  18. (ttym0-ttym7). These new devices may be used like any other serial devices on
  19. the system. Configuration programs are provided but standard UNIX commands can
  20. also be used to configure Multi*Port devices. Each terminal has full-time
  21. direct access to the UNIX host and can be independently running its own
  22. application process.
